But it comes as the country's growth slows amid tepid global demand that's adding pressure on tens of thousands of manufacturers. With costs rising and profits shrinking, Chinese manufacturers will only be able to survive in the near future by successfully transitioning from the current labour-oriented mode to more automated manufacturing. Shenzhen Rapoo Technology Co. is among the companies at ground zero of this transformation. At its factory in the southern Chinese industrial boomtown of Shenzhen, orange robot arms work alongside human operators assembling computer mice and keyboards. China faces dwindling foreign exchange reserves when India is agressively pushing itself as a destination for foreign investment. China is scared it might lose FDI race to India. In 2015, India was for the first time the leading country ($63 billion) in the world for FDI, overtaking China (USD 56.6 billion) and the US ($59.6 billion). What will the global economy look like in 2025? Dr. James Manyika runs through several likely shifts from our current situation, led by the undeniable rise of East Asia. Dr. Manyika's latest book is "No Ordinary Disruption: The Four Global Forces Breaking All the Trends" (http://goo.gl/N15UiO). Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/james-manyika-on-the-rise-of-emerging-markets Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript - The center of gravity of the global economy is actually shifting east and south to some extent. In fact what’s interesting about that is that if you actually tried to do a center of gravity analysis you’ll actually find that the center of gravity of the global economy by 2025 will actually be somewhere in East Asia is where it will be. And what’s interesting about that is that that’s where it was in about year 1 A.D. So in fact in some ways it’s a return back to where the center of gravity used to be. So you’ve got that big geographic shift happening. Associated with that same geographic shift is actually another shift which is in some ways even more interesting which is the rise in importance of cities and urbanization. I think for the first time we’re going to see the majority of humanity live in cities in ways that are way more profound than we’ve ever seen before. In fact if you actually look at the global economy through the lens of cities you see a few different things. One you see that, for example, between now and the year 2025 something like two-thirds of the global economy and the growth of the global economy is going to be led by about 600 cities. And that’s a very finite number. I mean 600 cities in the grand scheme of things is not a very large number. And of those 600 cities something like 440 of them are actually in emerging countries. Most people haven’t heard of cities like Komatsu, Tianjin, Honshu. So there’s a lot of cities on that list in the global economy that are quite extraordinary. And by the way this rise in urbanization is interesting because, you know, we’ve actually been adding something the equivalent of if you like six Chicagos every year to the global economy, to just the sheer scale of this urbanization trend. We know that people are wealthier on average when they move into cities. We know that cities as economic engines are actually more productive because of that density. We also know now as a result also of other things like technology that some of the most interesting innovations and business models and models are actually happening inside cities. So it’s no surprise that the vast majority of some of the trends we’re seeing whether it’s the Ubers or the Airbnbs and all these kinds of new interesting models all happen in dense urban environments. So cities are actually very interesting places and I think we haven’t thought enough about them as sort of engines of economic growth and performance.

If we think about further staff reductions from enterprises as well as emerging new workers (ie. migrant workers, graduates etc), there will be 3.2 (m) million people requiring employment and re-employment in the next four years." Beijing - File (1 July 2002) 25. Wide shot of protest outside Ministry of railways 26. Various shots of protestors outside the Ministry's gates STORYLINE: Protests by redundant workers in China have become increasingly frequent as dying state enterprises choose to shed staff or close. Millions of Chinese workers have in recent years felt the sting of a nationwide campaign to trim the economy as China entered the World Trade Organisation (WTO). But the tough economic policy have left the jobless without adequate welfare benefits. Many workers complain their pensions and health benefits were not paid and housing and heating allowances withdrawn. The problems have come to the attention of China's leaders. Liaoning Province in northwest China is one of the hardest hit areas of China. He added that many laid-off and unemployed workers could hardly obtain basic support for their lives. In China's factories, the robots are rising. It's part of a broader overhaul of the economy as China seeks to vault into the ranks of wealthy nations. The company began its push into automation five years ago. Rapoo installed 80 robots made by Sweden's ABB Ltd. to assemble mice, keyboards and their sub-components. The robots allowed the company to save USD $1.6 million each year and trim its workforce to less than 1,000 from a peak of more than 3,000 in 2010. Such upgrading underscores the grand plans China's communist leaders have for industrial robotics. President Xi Jinping called in a speech last year for a "robot revolution" in a nod to automation's vital role in raising productivity. Authorities have announced measures such as subsidies and tax incentives over the past three years to encourage industrial automation as well as development of a home grown robotics industry. A relentless surge in wages is adding impetus to the automation revolution. China relied on a seemingly endless supply of cheap labour for decades to power its economic expansion. That equation is changing as the country's working age population stops growing and more Chinese graduate from university, resulting in a dwindling supply of unskilled workers, annual double-digit percentage increases in the minimum wage and rising labour unrest. Rapoo's wage bill rising 15-20 percent a year was one big factor driving its use of robots, according to Pboll Deng, Rapoo's deputy general manager. Below are a few reasons why China is scared of India: 1. Foreign direct investment :: On Monday, President Xi Jinping vowed to open up China like never before. China faces dwindling foreign exchange reserves when India is agressively pushing itself as a destination for foreign investment. Premier Li Keqiang has annnounced that foreign firms would be treated the same as domestic firms when it comes to licences applications, standard setting, government procurement and would enjoy same preferential policies under Made in China 2025 initiative. China is scared it might lose FDI race to India. In 2015, India was for the first time the leading country ($63 billion) in the world for FDI, overtaking China (USD 56.6 billion) and the US ($59.6 billion). This has set the alarm bells ringing in the Chinese establishment. 2. Manufacturing :: China is also scared of India overtaking it in manufacturing in the long term as labour costs in China are rising. Global Times, a Chinese establishment newspaper, wrote recently in an article headlined 'China should pay more attention to India’s increasing manufacturing competitiveness': “Although India is still in its initial stage of developing export-oriented manufacturing industries, the country has great potential to emerge as a regional hub for labour-intensive industries. One recent analysis showed China’s manufacturing hourly wage in 2016 was roughly five times that in India.” The trigger for the article was India’s exports to China increasing 42% in January this year. Though China has a big edge over India in bilateral trade, it wants to see if the rise in Indian exports is a flash in the pan or a trend. 3. Talent :: US-based software firm CA Technologies disbanded its almost 300-person research and development team in China while setting up a team in India with some 2,000 scientific and technical professionals over the past few years. This is one instance that signals India having a better pool of technological talent. The Chinese state media has agreed that India has better technological talent than China. Recently, Global Times wrote, "Over the past few years, China witnessed an unprecedented boom in tech jobs as the country became an attractive destination for foreign research and development centres. However, now some high-tech firms are turning their attention from China to India due to the latter's relatively low labour costs. Attracting high-tech talent from India could be one of China's options for maintaining its innovation ability." India, with a sufficient young talent pool, is becoming increasingly attractive, the Global Times said. =================================================== DISCLAIMER: Information, Facts or Opinion expressed in this Video are Presented as Sources and do not reflects views of INDIA TUBE and hence INDIA TUBE is not liable or responsible for the same. CPEC Early Harvest Projects Create Over 30,000 Direct Jobs in Pakistan Follow us on www.facebook.com/pakistanaffairs2017 www.twitter.com/pakistanaffairz CPEC projects create over 30,000 jobs Another myth is busted with the latest information of jobs created by China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Early Harvest Projects (EHP) as the official data shows that more than 30,000 Pakistani engineers and workers have got direct employment under this corridor project. Perception that only Chinese have been hired by Chinese companies working on CPEC projects is devoid of truth, said officials. According to the data of Planning Commission, around 8000 Chinese are working on these projects. Average strength of Chinese workers never crossed the figure of 25 % of the total employees. It is estimated that the employment opportunities for local youth will maximize with implementation of mega projects in mid to long term of CPEC. International Labour Organization (ILO) estimated that CPEC will support to create around 400,000 jobs while Applied Economics Research Centre (AERC) estimated that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is expected to create over 700,000 direct jobs between 2015 and 2030 and add 2 to 2.5 points to the annual economic growth of the country. The estimates of Planning Commission show that the figure may go much higher as CPEC would generate around 800,000 jobs over the period of next 15 years. Presently, the mega energy projects under CPEC portfolio contributed majority of jobs where 16,000 Pakistanis are hired as laborer and engineers. Port Qasim Coal Power project is the top one which created job opportunities for 5,000 Pakistanis. Sahiwal Coal Power Plant Project and Zonergy Solar Power Project stand second in list with 3,000 jobs each. “Around 300 to 500 engineers are working on these energy projects which would surely help in transfer of knowledge in these sector, thus helping the country to have its own trained human resource” said officials. With implementation of two more project in energy sector; Sukki Kinari and Karot, would generate around 6,000 jobs for Pakistani engineers and workers. “Huge number of Pakistani civil and electrical engineers could grab this opportunity where hydropower projects are under execution” said officials. Besides, energy portfolio, CPEC Transport Infrastructure Sector stands second in creating around 13,000 jobs for locals. The data shows that 9,800 Pakistanis are working on Peshawar-Karachi Motorway (Multan Sukkur Section), a biggest infrastructure project under CPEC. The data further shows that KKH Phase II Havelian provided jobs to 2071 locals, Orange Line Metro Lahore created employment for 956 people and Fiber Optic project created 580 posts for Pakistanis. Development of Free zone project at Gwadar has created 404 direct jobs with additional 2,000 indirect employment. It is estimated that this project would create thousands of job opportunities for locals; soon it is made fully functional with establishment of different industries here. The figures could grow significantly with more infrastructure projects expected to begin this year. Construction work on ML-1 project of Pakistan Railway, Gwadar Airport, Eastbay Expressway at Gwadar and other road projects are starting this as framework agreements of these projects have been signed by both side during One Built One Road Summit at China this month. “These projects could further create around 10,000 to 15,000 direct jobs this year” officials estimated. They said that facts and figure clearly indicated that more than 75 percent Pakistanis are employed on CPEC projects, a fact which is contrary to the propaganda being spread by anti CPEC forces. “All the companies try its level best to look for local engineers and laborers, fulfilling the social responsibility” said officials. In addition, CPEC projects being implemented through Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), particularly Hakla-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway Project has also generated thousands of jobs for Pakistani workers. Besides, such a huge direct employment, the CPEC projects which are in construction phase have created thousands of indirect jobs and brought a boom for construction industry as steel and cement manufacturers are fully engaged in multiplying their production.

Chinese officials said on Monday, India has done a better job than China in promoting satellite launch technology which could prompt Beijing to fast-track commercialisation of its rocket launches to contest for the world's small satellite launch market. Zhang Yonghe, director with the new technology department of the Shanghai Engineering Centre for Microsatellites (MIcrosat), said." The launch indicated that India can send commercial satellites into space at lower costs, giving the country's competitiveness in the global race for the burgeoning commercial space businesses," China may fast-track the commercialisation of its rocket launches after India's success, Chinese-state run media quoted Chinese officials as saying in a report titled 'India's satellite launch ramps up space race'. Zhang the director of Shanghai Engineering Centre for Microsatellites (Microsat), believes that India did a better job promoting its launch services internationally than China, the report said. Acknowledging that after reaching Mars ahead of China, India stole the march last week by putting 104 satellites into orbit from a single rocket, "China will likely fast-track the commercialisation of its rocket launches to contest for the world's burgeoning small satellite launch market. Chinese Global Times report said "The Wednesday's launch is India's latest triumph for its space programme," "In 2014, India became the fourth country to successfully send a spacecraft to orbit Mars, signalling a regional rivalry with China which suffered a failure in its Mars mission in 2012," "Nearly all of its 103 smaller satellites are from other countries including Israel, Kazakhstan, Switzerland and the US," -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Pakistan started its space agency 8 year before ISRO, Ind vs Pak space race: पाकिस्तान vs भारत" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtQDcbrwAEo -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
